Sirao Garden Celosia Flower Farm

Considered as the “Little Amsterdam” of Cebu, the Celosia Flower Farm in Barangay Sirao, Cebu is now one of the tourist attractions of the island. Means “burning” in Greek, the Celosia Flowers represents fire when planted in groups because of the warm color combination it offers when fully grown.

Has been existent for many years already, the Sirao Flower Farm became an instant sensation because of the help of Facebook and Instagram. Visitors who took photo of the well-maintained flower farm have made it a tourist attraction. At just P20 per person, you can instantly take photos, then post it on FB and make your friends believe you are in Amsterdam or Greece. The colors red, yellow, orange, pink, and gold make the ambiance of the Sirao Farm more appealing to visitors of all ages.

The farmers and owners decided to stop the harvesting of the flowers a few days before All Saints Day in 2015 because of the inflow of tourists to the plantation. The very minimum entrance fee is to compensate for the damaged soil and flowers done by the guests. It was in October-November 2015 when the Sirao Flower Farm became a tourist spot but prior to making it a sensation, there are already occasional visitors, including pre-nuptials and debut photo shoots.

In recent months, the Celosia Flower Farm has undergone upgrades and ornamentation to make it more appealing to guests. Flowers are now with wooden sticks and nylon wires to protect it from human stomping. A replica of an Amsterdam Windmill is visible at the Celosia Flower Farm, making it more Amsterdam-like. A Dutch Costume is also available for rent at only P30.

At the farm, the celosia sells for P25 per six stems and the gerbera and chrysanthemum for P40 a dozen. Elsewhere, their prices go up when they go down to the city and get makeovers. These flowers take about 3 months to blossom and it definitely loves the sun on a cold environment. Planting these flowers in the urban areas is a bit challenging.

Food, Drinks and Gift Shop are available in Sirao Flower Garden both inside the gated area and along the road. Buko juice, softdrinks, tempura, fishball and bananaque are just some of the food and drinks you can grab at the garden. Taking exclusive selfies, twofies, and groupies are now a bit challenging because of the number of tourists visiting the Celosia Farm.

How to Get There

The Sirao Flower Farm is accessible by bicycle, by private motorcycle or by habal-habal (P300 round-trip to JY Mall per person inclusive of waiting time) and by car (P1500/4 persons) or by van (P1800, 5 to 12 persons). From JY Square Mall in Lahug, the Celosia Farm is about 17-18 kilometers uphill. Take the Transcentral Highway, the same road going to Busay Cebu Tops and Doce Pares Zipline (now closed) in going the farm. Along the main highway, you will notice Ayala Heights on the left. Just a few meters from the entrance of Ayala Heights, you will see a long road on the right side, which used to be the location of Kan-Irag Nature Park.
